I am not a parent of the school, however I am a parent and spent a few hours observing in this school. I am extremely impressed with the quality of staff and dedication of administration. If all school staff would be similar to the staff of this school, the world would certainly be a better place!

My son and daughter go to PS 45 and I think the rating given to this school is to low. There are great teachers doing great things at PS 45. PS 45's principal, Ms. Terrel, who changed that cleaned house and change our school around. Ms. Terrel with the help of teachers and staff took PS 45 from a SURR school to one of the most competitive Queens public schools. Our math scores in our testing grades, this includes special education students, were among one of the highest. We have pre-school to six grade with small class sizes and hard working teachers who care. I really think GreatSchools needs to update there rating.

PUBLIC K - 5 AVERAGE 713 3

This school is growing and changing. The principal has a strong personality which may be intimidating to some, but the students seem to respect her. She has done impressive work to get a beautiful new playground built, lap tops for each student in most of the classrooms, and smart boards in many classrooms. There are also 3D movie nights hosted in the school's auditorium every other month. Parent involvement is very low and the school and students suffer as a result. Most of the teachers show that they care very much about the students and about educating them. The other staff do seem to 'yell' an awful lot to get the kids to listen, but are working on making changes, such as playing music in the cafeteria during lunch. There is still work to be done at this school, but they are moving in the right direction.
